Ninth round: Srinath winning the Faroes Open

Already before the last round it was was expected that indian GM Srinath Narayanan (2549) would win the Faroes Open for a second year in a row. He was already leading with 1 point down to his closest rivals, so he only needed a draw in the last round the be sure of the win.

 

GM Srinath Narayanan (2549) had black against IM Maksim Vavulin (2552) in the last round. They agreed on a draw after 32 moves, which was enough for GM Srinath Narayanan (2549) to win the tournament.

GM Vitaly Kunin (2538) and GM Gawain Jones (2670) both won their games against GM Normunds Miezis (2463) and FM Høgni E. Nielsen (2397) meaning they ended the tournament ½ point after GM Srinath Narayanan (2549) with GM Kunin getting the second place and GM Jones getting third place.

GM Gawain Jones (2670) got third place after winning against FM Høgni E. Nielsen (2397) in the last round.

IM Maksim Vavulin (2552), who got a draw in the last round against winner GM Srinath Narayanan (2549), came in fourth in the tournament, while local grandmaster Helgi Dam Ziska (2552) got fifth place after a win against IM John Arni Nilssen (2301) in the last round.

Most of the other players were also fighting for rating prizes. In the rating group 2201-2400 IM Martin  Haubro (2373) won the rating prize. He finished the tournament with 5½ points.
