Fourth round: IM Narayanan beats GM Zuniga to claim top spot

We have a couple of new leaders after today’s games in the Faroes Open. On the main table IM Srinath Narayanan (2505) met leader GM Julio Ernesto Granda Zuniga (2656). This ended up being the longest game of the day, when the two played for more than 5 hours. In the end IM Srinath Narayanan (2505) managed to win the game making him the new leader of the tournament.

 

However he is not alone on the top. He is joined by Faroese FM Rógvi Egilstoft Nielsen (2353), who had black against FM Hans Kristian Simonsen (2180). FM Rógvi Egilstoft Nielsen (2353) won this game and is now also on 3½ points after the first 4 games. He will meet IM Srinath Narayanan (2505) tomorrow on the main table.

FM Høgni Egilstoft Nielsen (2323) won with black today against GM Normunds Miezis.

There are a few players following on 3 points. GM Julio Ernesto Granda Zuniga (2656) is one of them after his loss today. GM Helgi Dam Ziska (2544) and GM Allan Stig Rasmussen (2540) are also on 3 points after they drew each other today, and the same is GM Miguel Munoz (2495) after his win with black against IM John Rødgaard (2329). The last player on 3 points is FM Høgni Egilstoft Nielsen (2323), who got a very good win today with black against GM Normunds Miezis (2447).
